Gary’s consulting ‘apprenticeship’ lasted 20 years, first, in the consumer packaged goods industry with Procter & Gamble Canada and then in the multinational pharmaceutical industry in senior marketing/general management roles, based in Montreal (twice), Hong Kong, New Jersey and London (UK). His most recent corporate role was Global General Manager, Consumer Healthcare, for Glaxo Wellcome, now part of GSK. He then ‘graduated’ into the world of teaching and consulting, first, in England and then back in Canada for the past 15 years.
He has taught postgraduate strategy and marketing courses in the UK (Regent Business School) and undergraduate Entrepreneurship and Marketing courses in Canada (Lakehead, Laurentian Universities and the Canadian Automotive Business School at Georgian College).
Gary has written and presented extensively on industry issues and is the co-author (with Michael Owen) of a Nicholas Hall Report On the Outlook of Direct to Consumer Pharma Promotion in Europe and a chapter contributor to T. Blackett, ed., Brand Medicine: The Role of Branding in the Pharmaceutical Industry (2001). He is a member of Research Gate which is a leading online community of professionals engaged in original research.
He holds an MBA (Distinction) from Imperial College London – Entrepreneurship Specialisation, an adult teaching certificate (PGCE) from Buckinghamshire New University (UK) and a BA (Hons) in Business Administration from the Ivey Business School at Western University (London, Ontario).
Gary and his wife Sue are based in the Beach area of Toronto. He can usually be found in Algonquin Park in August (when the mosquitoes have left town), refining his paddling and portaging skills.
